In November, creative agency Verdes, and non-profit S.O.W. (Scope Of Work, helmed by Eda Levenson, Geneva White, and Mikey Cordero) and I turned Puma's ComplexCon space into a two-day "pawn shop" for young talent in an attempt to create financial and creative equity between streetwear brands and the community they often "borrow" from.
A team of brokers (industry professionals) spent the weekend reviewing hundreds of pitches from photographers, designers, musicians, and models for themed briefs with real job opportunities and gigs as the prize. Folks with serious potential received career advice and resources from S.O.W. and were ultimately included in a creative roster which Puma will consult for future creative needs. A step towards making room in the creative industry or young voices and dissolving some of the opacity around it that makes that a challenge.
Modeled after the vernacular of pawn shops and bodegas, plexiglass teller windows, layers of posters and stickers, a working conveyor belt, fridge-inspired retail displays designed by Bower made of security gate metal mesh and neon, and a stylized apartment on the second floor were all involved.
Creative Director: Greg Matson

Graphic Design: Myself, Yuky Hwang, Nadia Lung
Research: Fernanda Flores, Henry Kaye
Production: Catapult
